Learning in the Garden

Garden & Floral Photography Mentoring Sessions
I know it's a very rare occasion that busy, knackered florists get time to experiment, style and photograph their own work. But I also think continued learning and creative play is an essential part of keeping you excited for your business and avoiding burnout. So during the growing months, there are a small number of diary dates opened to others who would like to come and practice their craft, hone their style and improve their photography.
This is an opportunity to learn new skills but also to elevate the imagery in your online portfolio with a professional photographer.
Using materials available here you can experiment with naturalistic arrangements to reflect the seasons. As a past wedding and bridal magazine photographer, I'll offer my experience and guidance to give you tips on how to create beautiful images of your work that get noticed. Having a dslr or mirrorless camera is great but we can still work with your iPhone if that's what would normally use. It's about improving your eye for detail, light, colour and your own artistic voice. Sessions will be adjusted for your skill level.
These 1:1 days are suitable for those who want to take better photographs of their work, for florists who want to create more naturalistic, garden-inspired arrangements or for anyone who wants to experience the therapeutic benefits of creativity in a thriving garden.
What can I expect from a 1:1 mentoring day?

What you would like to focus on is entirely up to you. Although most sessions are for one-to-one learning it could also be you and friends (Two-three people max).
Typically the day starts with a cuppa and a chat. Then a walk around the garden to gather inspiration, to see what's in season and choose elements that could work together. If you're a complete beginner we will help guide you in how to create a naturalistic and sustainable floral composition using the backdrops and vessels here. We will style a seasonal tablescape, looking at the best way to use the light for atmospheric, captivating photographs that elevate your floral creations. Some florists have a strong idea of what they would like to experiment with on the day and need more hands on help with the photography and styling. This is perfect for burnt out florists who need a restorative recharge or want to try cut flowers and foliage you won't normally find at the wholesalers.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Day sessions usually begin around 10am and finish up at 5pm but half days are also available if you prefer. Please reach out for half day and full day rates and any other info.
